What is a turned part?

Turned parts are mechanically manufactured components, typically characterised by their rotational symmetry, produced through a process known as turning. This manufacturing technique is analogous to other processes such as welding for welded parts, laser cutting for laser parts, and milling for milled parts.
In turning, the work piece is meticulously machined using lathes or turning-milling centres. A turning chisel is employed to shape the workpiece, removing excess material at high speeds, often exceeding 1,000 revolutions per minute (rpm). Several factors, including material specifications, tool types, and the diameter of the workpiece, determine the turning speed and feed rate during this process.
At BMI Engineering, we specialise in creating high-quality, bespoke turned parts tailored to meet specific requirements. Our expertise in producing specialist components ensures that we can deliver precise, customised solutions for a wide range of applications. Whether you need standard or custom parts, our advanced turning capabilities and attention to detail guarantee the highest standards of craftsmanship and performance.
